Lola Young is almost as well-known for her bold fashion aesthetic as she is her alternative indie bops. (Her song “Messy” is still a permanent feature in every one of our playlists.) But it's her down-to-earth persona that we love most about the 24-year-old artist—and is there anything more relatable than taking the time to discover your personal style?

Yep, if your FYP is anything like ours, chances are you've seen the throwback videos of Lola at the beginning of her career circulating online by her die-hard fans. It's safe to say we had to double-take when we first saw the clips, as Lola is unrecognizable.

Wearing a hoodie and high-waist trousers, her ensemble is totally different to the statement-making, often risqué attire she can more commonly be found wearing on stage now. One thing that is the same, though, is Lola's penchant for chunky gold jewelery. Clearly she's never not been without her layered gold chains and hoop earrings!

Naturally, as her career has developed, so has her style. So consider this a deep dive into Lola's fashion journey over the years.

Lola Young's style transformation

Lola's Instagram may only date back to May 2022, but the artist first got involved in the music industry long before. She was just 14 years old when she finished as a runner-up on the CBBC teen singing competition Got What It Takes? in 2016.

Two years later, she graduated from the BRIT School, joining famous alumni including Adele, Amy Winehouse and FKA Twigs. She signed with Island Records in 2019, releasing her debut single, “6 Feet Under,” in the same year, before then attending her first Brit Awards back in 2020.

In July 2021, Lola performed at the British festival Standon Calling, opting for a red basque top and cut-out denim jeans.

Just two short months later, she was a guest on The Late Late Show with James Corden in the US and performed a song while dressed in a low-key black top, trousers and cardigan. A more muted outfit compared to her typical 'fits.

For her second appearance the the Brit Awards in 2022, Lola opted for a top with daring XL cut-outs paired with flared trousers and a mock croc patent coat.

Fast forward to 2023, and Lola hinted at her interest in fashion when she attended a Givenchy fragrance launch party wearing an edgy triple denim look consisting of a micro jacket, cropped top and maxi skirt.

It seems Lola's trademark style only really started to emerge in 2024, in line with the release of her second album, This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway that included her song ‘Messy,’ which was her first song to top the UK Singles Chart.

This extended to her stage outfits. For her performance at 2024 Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago, Lola wore a mesh cold-shoulder bra top paired with checked cargo shorts and platform boots.

Most recently, Lola performed at Coachella in a khaki green bra with coordinating parachute pants and a fluffy hooded overlay.

For her second day at the desert festival, she followed a similar outfit formula wearing a silver mesh chainmail bra top, denim jorts, an oversized white hoodie and Adidas trainers.

There's no denying Lola's style is uniquely her, and we love seeing the combinations she puts together!
