Prince William is still not speaking to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle amid years of family drama, and it looks like things could escalate once Wills becomes King.
According to the Daily Beast, a "vengeful" King William could officially strip Meghan and Harry of their HRH titles (His/Her Royal Highness), which they agreed not to use after stepping down from senior royal duties.
Apparently, King Charles doesn't want "to open a new front in the civil war" by stripping the couple of their titles during his reign, and for now, William is expected to "respect his father’s rank." But once he's king, the Sussexes could be officially lacking HRH status.
"William has been given a great deal of influence on all areas of royal policy, but that cuts both ways and he respects his father’s rank," a source says. "Charles has a softly-softly attitude to Harry and Meghan, and so that’s the policy for now, but the gloves will be off when he inherits the throne. If they started using the HRH titles on a regular basis, he would take them away for good."
Oh, and per a friend of William's, "It’s no secret William wants Harry more harshly dealt with. He thinks he has betrayed the family from top to bottom, which is the ultimate Windsor crime. It wouldn’t take much to provoke him to flex his muscles when he is king."
Meanwhile, a buddy of King Charles notes that "It’s not as if they are calling themselves HRH. I think everyone is pretty clear, at this stage, what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s position in the family is."
