Pride & Prejudice is having a moment. Though, in my brain it's never not having a moment due to Mr. Darcy's hand clench playing on repeat.
Anyway, on top of Netflix bringing us yet another adaptation of the iconic Jane Austen novel (this time starring Emma Corrin and Jack Lowdon) and the BBC announcing The Other Bennet Sister (all about Mary Bennet), Focus Features is re-releasing Pride & Prejudice with Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen to celebrate the film's 20th anniversary.
And not only are they blessing us with Mr. Darcy's hand clench on the big screen, they dropped a bunch of never-before-seen photos of the cast hanging on set. Swipe for the full effect, if you can handle clicking away from this first pic.
Psst, the studio also released a line of merch including this gem:
Need.
But fun fact before we go buy that shirt: Matthew Macfadyen didn't initially think he was the right person to play Mr. Darcy. As he put it to NPR, “I didn’t feel I was dishy enough and sort of brooding enough. In your mind’s eye, as an actor, you always want to be a little more of this and a little more that and my confidence wasn’t great . . . I sort of decided that he was like a tortured adolescent, Mr. Darcy, which, in a way, he was. He’s grieving his parents. He’s inherited this vast estate and responsibility and he’s all conflicted and torn up, and so I thought, oh, that’ll be my way into him.”
NO NOTES!
