Christina Haack is getting vulnerable about what led to her divorce from Josh Hall. In a bombshell cover interview with Us Weekly, the HGTV star revealed that filming her show The Flip Off with her ex "sped up" the end of their relationship (as seen in this awk clip the network recently dropped).
"Josh was very hard to film with," Christina told the outlet. "He didn’t get it. He’d always get upset with me, like, ‘Oh, my gosh, you did this,’ or ‘You did that.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m making a TV show.’" They continued production amid their divorce filing last summer, and according to Christina, it was "better" that he ultimately left the show because "it would've sucked" if he stuck around past its first episode.
She added that filming The Flip Off with Josh "probably just sped [their split] up"—especially because her ex, Tarek El Moussa and his wife, Selling Sunset alum Heather Rae El Moussa, are still involved in the series. She explained that she and Tarek "filmed together forever" on their 2013 show Flip or Flop, and continued to work together after filing for divorce in 2018.
"If I would laugh at Tarek, I would get the silent treatment for a week," Christina said, claiming that Josh's reaction came from "insecurity."
She continued, "Somebody with more confidence would be able to say, 'This is my wife, but yes, she does this for TV. She was filming with Tarek when I met her.' There was a rationale there that didn’t make sense. You know what you signed up for. I’m your wife, and I’m choosing you, but you’re choosing to make my life harder over insecurities."
Us Weekly's report comes after Josh reacted to HGTV posting a behind-the-scenes clip from the series on January 6. "TFW when you can’t get enough ratings with celebrity [home] designers, so you rely on manufactured drama with me, a nobody. @HGTV you’ve changed," he wrote on his Instagram Stories, per People.
The next day, Christina shared a screenshot of Josh's quote on her Stories, writing, "Manufactured?! Pretty sure no one at HGTV told you to be rude to me… That was all natural." She then posted a photo of herself crying, writing, "This was taken on June 21, 2024. After one of my shoots with Josh. This is 'real' and a reminder to myself that I deserve better."
ICYMI, Christina and Josh were married for two years before filing for divorce in July 2024. According to legal docs obtained by People, they cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split.
