Hailey Bieber meaningfully paid tribute to the late designer Virgil Abloh on what would have been his 44th birthday. Yesterday (September 30), the Rhode founder shared snaps of her and husband Justin Bieber’s wedding in honor of the five-year anniversary of the special day, all the while giving a special shoutout to Virgil, who sadly passed away from cardiac angiosarcoma in November 2021 at 41 years old.
“Happy Birthday V, we miss you! Thank you for making me the most magical wedding dress 🤍🪽,” Hailey captioned one of her Instagram Stories, which featured a photo of herself and the late Off-White designer walking side by side.
She then followed up with a candid snap of herself and Justin kissing on their wedding day, with her forever iconic veil, which bore the words “‘Till Death Do Us Part,” on full display alongside the caption “5 ✨” in reference to their anniversary. (FYI, the longtime couple officially got married in a New York City courthouse ceremony on September 13, 2018, but waited a year to have their larger South Carolina nuptials.)
While speaking about her wedding to Vogue (via People) in 2019, Hailey gushed that she knew “from day one” that she specifically wanted Virgil to design her dress. “I didn’t want somebody who was a wedding dress designer. I just feel like my style and my street style is such a part of who I am. Virgil has kind of always just been in my corner since the beginning and I just feel like it’s cool to see such an intricate gown from him,” she explained before adding that the veil was the “icing” on top of the special design.
Virgil, for his part, also sat down with the mag and revealed his vision for the celeb. “For her, I wanted something fun and youthful, but still traditional,” he explained, noting, “What I think is most important for her on this day is showcasing the woman that she is. I wanted to make something that made [Justin] look in Hailey’s eyes and see that she’s the most beautiful woman for him.”
“The gratifying side about designing for Hailey, in this case, is I know her personality. For her, I wanted something fun and youthful just the same, but still traditional,” he said elsewhere during the convo. ❤️
