Kate Middleton showed up at Trooping the Colour this weekend, marking her first public appearance since December 2023. There was speculation about the Princess of Wales attending the annual event, but she announced the news herself in a rare social media post, writing in part, "I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family."
According to the Daily Beast, Kate's appearance was the subject of "top secret planning for several weeks." The outlet cited The Telegraph, which explained that "little happens by accident when it comes to royal pictures and messaging" and that King Charles's decision to stand shoulder to shoulder with Kate on the Buckingham Palace balcony was definitely intentional and speaks "volumes" about the pride he has in his daughter-in-law.
The mag *also* noted that at last year's Trooping the Colour, "Charles stood next to William on the balcony," so Kate's place by his side definitely seems intentional!
As for when Kate will next be seen in public, the Princess of Wales revealed via Instagram that she hopes "to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet."
The Telegraph reports that those appearances could include the Japanese state visit in June and Wimbledon in July, but likely won't include the Royal Ascot.
As Kate put it herself, "My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home [...] I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal."
