Kate Middleton broke her silence amid mounting speculation about her whereabouts on Friday, March 22, revealing she’s been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

According to the Sunday Times, Kate filmed the video on Wednesday, March 20, and “went to see the King,” who offered his encouragement and support, “for lunch the following day.”

“A factor in their decision to go public would have been the great warmth and affection received by the King as a result of his announcement,” a source recently told the outlet. “It meant a huge amount to him. In some ways it provided a template. For the King, the issue was how to act quickly to share the information with an audience of millions, while for the princess the core audience was their three young children and a message that had to be sensitively handled at the right time before it could be shared with the wider public.”

The Telegraph also spoke to a source who said Kate decided to record her video because she was “encouraged by how warmly the King’s public statement on his health was received and the positive impact it has had on others going through the same thing.” Additionally, a second insider added, “She’s got a steely determination inside her. Once she’s put her mind to something, there’s no stopping her. She’s tough.”

Btw, apparently, despite the fact that the Princess of Wales filmed the video last week, she decided to make it a few weeks prior. Per The Sun editor Victoria Newton (via BBC One), “It was actually, I understand, that the Princess made the decision two weeks ago that she was going to do this public statement. The key thing for her as a mother, the priority was protecting those three children. She didn’t want them going to school, being asked even more than they already were.”

When it comes to Kate’s statement, a Kensington Palace source confirmed to People that the Princess of Wales “wrote every word herself”—a detail one of her friends fully backed: “She wrote the words herself, delivered it personally, and wanted to decide when the time was right to hit the world with this news.”
