Billie Eilish has taken this awards season by storm with her Barbie megahit, “What Was I Made For?” and naturally, she and her older brother/producer/superstar-in-his-own-right Finneas took the stage at the 2024 Oscars with another gorgeous rendition of the song. This time around, the powerhouse duo was joined by a full orchestra to bring the emotional ballad to life on the Oscars stage. Billie and Finneas were met with a standing ovation at the end of the number.
Billie wore a little pink Barbie-appropriate bow and Chanel tweed blazer, and she looked as incredible as she sounded. Catch a clip of her performance here and excuse me while I grab a box of tissues and sob all over again. 🤧
As for how she planned on making her Oscars rendition of the track different from her stunning and simple Grammys performance, Billie told ABC News, “It really kind of speaks for itself, to be honest. I think it’s not really about the production of the song, it’s about the song. I really want to be heard in the lyrics, and I don’t want to be seen as much as I want to be heard.”
The Barbie track marks Billie and Finneas’s second Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. They made Oscars history when they won the award for their Bond song, “No Time to Die,” in 2021. Per The Wrap, Billie became the first person who was born in the 21st century to win an Oscar, and she and Finneas were the first American songwriters to win for an original Bond song.
Say it with me: Icons! Only!
