If you’re anything like me, you’re starting to miss Ariana Grande’s music a liiiil 🤏 too much. The petite pop star hasn’t dropped new music since 2020 (Positions is a no-skip album, TYSM), but she has collaborated with artists like Doja Cat, The Weeknd, and Demi Lovato to keep Arianators fed.

Thanks to her chart-topping tracks, Ari has made history at the VMAs since she first performed at the pre-show in 2013, and she’s gone on to perform with Jessie J and Nicki Minaj in 2014, pack on the PDA with Pete Davidson on the red carpet in 2018, and of course, snag some Moon Person awards. These days, Ariana is also venturing into movie stardom on top of her already-stacked résumé.

Before the SAG-AFTRA strike halted major movie projects, Ariana was in the UK working on the film adaptation of Wicked alongside Cynthia Eviro, Jonathan Bailey, and Ethan Slater. Because the cast doesn’t want to cross picket lines, production has been paused until further notice. So that means Ariana has time to make a quick appearance at the VMAs tonight, right?! At least, that’s what fans on Twitter are hoping—they’re even making jokes about the star’s absence.

Unfortunately, they’re right, because Ms. Ponytail has skipped out on tonight’s VMAs festivities. While her whereabouts are unknown, we can likely assume she’s home spending time with her adorable pups and family. On September 12, she teased an upcoming project with Vogue on her Instagram Stories that she worked on in August.

By the looks of it, she may be appearing in a Beauty Secrets video for the magazine as her fragrances and R.E.M Beauty products are sprawled out on the counter in her photo. ICYMI, she just launched a new fragrance, Cloud Pink, and a full-coverage R.E.M. Beauty Sweetener foundation that’s already received rave reviews, so this may be what she has in the pipeline. 👀

In terms of ~music~, Ari released a string of live performances for the 10-year anniversary of her debut album, Yours Truly, and opened up about what it was like to shoot the music video for “The Way” with her late ex, Mac Miller, in a TikTok Q&A.

“We had no budget, didn’t even tell the label that we were gonna do it,” Ariana said. “Made it ourselves, and we said listen, we have a camera, we have a projector, we have music, we have balloons, we got dancers.”

“We didn’t have any budget or anything—we just made it. [We] showed it to the label ’cause they brought it up to me,” she continued. “They were like, ‘We need to shoot a music video,’ and I was like, ‘We already did it.’” Aaaand the rest was history. 🥹
