Even though we're only six short weeks into 2025, a few key hair trends have started to dominate my beauty-filled feeds. Lucky for you, I've rounded them all up and chatted with celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton (his clients include Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez) and hair colorist Alexis Katahira (she does Miley Cyrus) for their thoughts on these emerging cuts, colors, and styles. 2025's hair mood board is shaping up to be pretty epic folks, so take notes and let these stunning looks be your guide at your next salon appointment.
2025 Hair Trend: The Gracie Abrams Bob
To be fair, bobs have always been a super chic hairstyle but Gracie Abrams is giving the timeless cut a cool-girl makeover as of late. Her chin-grazing length is bold but still wearable, unlike say dramatic blunt bangs or pixie. "It's short enough to make a statement but versatile enough to style with some clips or wear in a pony," says Katahira.
2025 Hair Trend: Bangs with Layers
No matter what type of bangs you're wearing (Birkin, curtain, blunt, the list goes on), you can't go wrong combining them with some layers. "I love a longer bang with long layers to give hair volume and dimension," says Appleton. Katahira is also a fan, adding that "bohemian mid-length styles with layers that move aren't just shapes; they're moods—a combo of softness and structure."
2025 Hair Trend: Mahogany Color
The cherry-cola hair color trend has dominated social media over the last year or so, but in 2025 "color is about moving away from extremes and finding richness," says Katahira. Enter: Mahogany hair color, which is really the perfect blend of brown and red, resembling the eponymous wood.
Of course, you can go for a full transformation, but if you're already a brunette, try opting for a mahogany gloss glaze to top off your natural color. Another bonus? Mahogany is a relatively easy color to maintain without $$ monthly salon visits.
2025 Hair Trend: Beachy Highlights
Don't fret, these are *not* the faux bleached streaks of your Sun In days. The beachy highlight trend of 2025 is more intentional, giving off a natural brightness that's subtle and fresh. These lightened pieces throughout the hair are ideal for adding dimension to your color, no matter the hair type or texture.
2025 Hair Trend: Embellished Accessories
This year we're bringing back some of our favorite accessories from childhood and elevating them to the max. "Hair accessories, like bobby pins—yes, the ones we grew up with—are being reimagined," says Katahira. "Now they’re sleek, minimalist, or adorned with pearls, stones, or dangling charms—all playful without being juvenile," she adds.
2025 Hair Trend: The '90s Blowout
Bombshell blowouts with tons of volume will continue to thrive in 2025, no questions asked. "I love the way a good bouncy blowout accentuates the hair quality, making it look really healthy and shiny," says Appleton. And in 2025 you can obviously achieve a salon-esque blowout in the comfort of your home thanks to innovative hair tools like multi-stylers, thermal brushes, and even heatless curlers. Basically, you don't need to be a professional or book weekly blowouts to get maximum volume and bounce at home.
2025 Hair Trend: The Modern Mullet
"The mullet had its moment, but 2025 asks for something more refined," explains Katahira, adding that "we want to carry the same sense of wildness but with a softer edge, with playfulness and versatility."
Choppy, grown-out layers give off an effortlessly cool look that can easily be accomplished with minimal maintenance. The blend of the traditional mullet and the shaggy cut is defined by raw textures, face-framing shaping, and that "lived-in" look. This bold cut provides a coveted natural yet edgy finish, and we're totally here for it.
