Hailey Bieber interrupted her regular programming on Instagram to release a statement to fans, asking them not to leave rude comments on anyone’s account on her behalf. Ahem:
“If you’re leaving mean or rude comments on my behalf on anyone’s posts, just know that I don’t want that nor do I ever or will I ever support or condone hateful, mean, or nasty comments. Doing that is not supporting me. If you are participating in that, you are part of a culture that I want no part of. Please be nice or don’t say anything.”
So…what promoted Hailey to say this? While she didn’t offer an explanation, Just Jared reports that her fans and Selena Gomez’s fans started “fighting again this weekend.” Unclear what started the drama this time around (there’s a lot of recent history there), but Hailey also showed her support for Selena by Liking this post:
You can get caught up on recent drama between Hailey and Selena over here, but things reached a crescendo in March, prompting Selena to make this statement:
“Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know that she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
Hailey made a statement of her own in response, saying, “I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as her and I have been discussing the last few weeks how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I. The last few weeks have been very hard for everyone involved, and millions of people are seeing so much hate around this, which is extremely harmful. While social media is an incredible way to connect and build community, moments like this only create extreme division instead of bringing people together. Things can always be taken out of context or construed differently than they were intended. We all need to be more thoughtful about what we post and what we say, including myself. In the end, I believe love will always be bigger than hate and negativity, and there is always an opportunity to meet each other with more empathy and compassion.”
