Ever sine he welcomed his first child back in 2002, Elon Musk’s kids have been making headlines—and not just for their unusual names. The number of children he’s fathered has also become tabloid fodder, with Elon’s estranger daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, even telling Teen Vogue during a 2025 interview that she does “not actually know how many siblings” she has, especially when her half-siblings are thrown into the mix.
For the record: The Tesla and SpaceX founder has welcomed 14 children (Nevada, Vivian, Griffin, Kai, Saxon, Damian, X Æ A-Xii, Exa, Strider, Azure, Techno, Arcadia, Seldon Lycurgus, and Romulus) with four different women (Justine Wilson, Grimes, Shivon Zilis, and Ashley St. Clair)...so Vivian’s confusion is understandable. Read on for a quick intro to all of Elon’s children, which include two pairs of twins and a set of triplets.
Nevada Alexander
- Born: May 2002
- Mother: Justine Wilson
Following their January 2000 wedding, Elon and his first wife, Justine Wilson, had their son, Nevada Alexander, on May 18, 2002. Tragically, he died of complications from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at ten weeks old.
As Justine later explained in an essay for Marie Claire, “Elon made it clear that he did not want to talk about Nevada’s death. I didn’t understand this, just as he didn’t understand why I grieved openly, which he regarded as ‘emotionally manipulative.’”
Vivian Jenna and Griffin
- Born: April 2004
- Mother: Justine Wilson
A few years after Nevada’s death, Justine and Elon welcomed twins via IVF. Born April 15, 2024, Vivian went on to legally change her name and gender in a court filing 18 years later. As she explained in her 2022 petition for the change (per People), “Gender Identity and the fact that I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”
Griffin, for his part, has largely avoided the limelight—though he did accompany his father to an event in May 2024.
Kai, Saxon, and Damian
- Born: Jan. 2006
- Mother: Justine Wilson
Two years after welcoming the twins, Justine and Elon quietly welcomed triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian in January 2006. During a 2017 TedTalk, Justine confirmed the trio was conceived via IVF, but little has been said about the boys by either Justine or Elon.
By September 2008, Justine and Elon announced that they were divorcing.
X Æ A-Xii
- Born: May 2020
- Mother: Grimes
- Name meaning: According to Grimes, “X” stands for “the unknown variable,” while “Æ” is the Elven spelling of AI, which is shorthand for artificial intelligence and the word for “love” in several languages. Of A-12, she said it’s the “precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.” (Elon later corrected her, saying, “SR-71, but yes.”)
Originally named X Æ A-12, Elon’s first child with musician Grimes was born in May 2020, and it seems they can’t agree on how to pronounce the name. (Grimes has said it’s pronounced Ex-A-I, while Elon has said it’s pronounced Ex-Ash-A-Twelve.)
In February 2025, Elon brought his four-year-old to the Oval Office, where “Little X” made headlines after he was caught telling Donald Trump, “I want you to shush your mouth.”
Strider Sekhar Sirius and Azure Astra Alice
- Born: Nov. 2021
- Mother: Shivon Zilis
- Name meanings: “Strider” is likely a reference to Aragorn’s alias in The Lord of the Rings, while “Sekhar” and “Sirius” are Sanskit and Greek in origin, respectively. Nothing is really known about Azure’s name, other than the fact that “Azure” means “sky blue” and “Astra” means “of the stars.”
According to court documents published by Business Insider, Elon welcomed twins Strider and Azure in November 2021 with Neuralink executive (and former Tesla employee) Shivon Zili, though their birth did not go public until the following summer.
Once the news went public, Elon seemingly responded to the criticism with a...questionable tweet, writing, “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis. A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.”
Exa Dark Sideræl
- Born: Dec. 2021
- Mother: Grimes
- Name meaning: As Grimes explained during an interview with Vanity Fair, “Exa” is a supercomputing term; “Dark” references “the unknown;” and “Sideræl” is “a more elven” spelling of sidereal, which refers to “the true time of the universe, star time, deep space time, not our relative earth time.” The name also serves as a tribute to Grimes’s favorite Lord of the Rings character, Galadriel.
Grimes welcomed her second child with Elon via surrogate in December 2021, just weeks after Strider and Azure were born. She then made her daughter’s arrival public during her March 2022 interview with Vanity Fair.
Oh, and her nickname? Simply “Y.”
Techno “Tau” Mechanicus
- Born: June 2022
- Mother: Grimes
- Name meaning: “Techno” likely references the musical genre, while his middle name, “Mechanicus,” is a Latin term for something mechanical or resembling a machine. Meanwhile, his nickname, “Tau,” is probably a nod to a mathematic constant representing pi multiplied by two.
Though born in June 2022, Elon’s third child with Grimes—Techno Mechanicus, also known as Tau—wasn’t made public until the September 2023 release of Walter Isaacson’s Elon Musk biography. In the book, Grimes is quoted as saying, “Tau is so amazing. He came out with eyes that could just see so deeply into your soul, with so much knowledge. He looks like a little Spock. He’s definitely a Vulcan.”
Soon after, Grimes released a statement about her newest addition on Twitter, writing, “I wish I could show u how cute little Techno is but my priority rn is keeping my babies out of the public eye. Plz respect that at this time.”
She also revealed that she and Shivon were on good terms following the birth of Strider and Azure.
Arcadia
- Born: Feb. 2024
- Mother: Shivon Zilis
- Name meaning: “Arcadia” has roots in classic Greek literature (representing an idyllic land) but could also be a reference to Arcadia Planitia, a large, flat region on Mars that Elon considers a potential site for a future habitat.
The news of Elon’s third child with Shivon (who was born in February 2024) was first made public by a Bloomberg article entitled “Elon Wants You to Have More Babies” in June 2024. Not long after, Elon confirmed the rumors to Page Six.
“All our friends and family know,” he said at the time. “Failure to issue a press release, which would be bizarre, does not mean ‘secret.’”
It wasn’t until the baby’s first birthday that Shivon revealed the child’s name, writing on Twitter, “Happy 1st birthday, darling Arcadia. Mommy loves you with all her heart.”
She then went on to drop an even bigger bombshell...but more on that in a minute.
Romulus
- Born: Sept. 2024
- Mother: Ashley St. Clair
- Name meaning: “Romulus” is likely a nod to the mythological founder of Rome.
Following a “romantic relationship” between Elon and conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair that started in approximately May 2023 (per her petition for sole custody), Elon’s thirteenth child, Romulus, was born in September 2024. However, Ashley didn’t announce her son’s birth (and reveal the identity of his father) until five months after the fact.
She dropped the news on Twitter on February 14, 2025, writing in part, “Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father. I have not previously disclosed this to protect our child’s privacy and safety, but in recent days it has become clear that tabloid media intends to do so, regardless of the harm it will cause.”
Elon later claimed that he didn’t “know if the child is [his] or not”...which led to further mess. Ahem:
The Wall Street Journal later confirmed that Elon’s “probability of paternity” was 99.9999 percent, according to a report from Labcorp.
Seldon Lycurgus
- Born: 2025
- Mother: Shivon Zilis
- Name meaning: “Seldon” may be a reference to the character Hari Seldon from Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, while his middle name “Lycurgus” may be inspired by the ancient Spartan lawmaker.
Two weeks after the news of Romulus dropped, Shivon took to Twitter on February 28, 2025 (which was also Arcadia’s first birthday) to announce that she and Elon had welcomed a fourth child together—though when exactly the child was born is unclear.
“Discussed with Elon and, in light of beautiful Arcadia’s birthday, we felt it was better to also just share directly about our wonderful and incredible son Seldon Lycurgus,” she wrote. “Built like a juggernaut, with a solid heart of gold. Love him so much.”
That’s it...for now. But we’ll let ya know if that changes.
