It's official: Chappell Roan has been appointed Global Ambassador for MAC Cosmetics. Both the Midwest Princess and MAC are beloved for their bold artistry and an unapologetic devotion to individuality, so the collaboration feels like a match made in beauty heaven.
“Partnering with MAC feels full circle,” says Chappell. “This brand has always made space for people like me; since day one, they’ve embraced art, queerness, drag, and self-expression.”
The brand has long been a pioneer in celebrating the LGBTQ+ community within the beauty industry, building a legacy that honors identity and boundary-pushing creativity—the same boldness Chappell brings to her campy on-stage personas and memorable red carpet moments.
The singer is undeniably synonymous with dramatic glam. "Whenever I don't have color in a makeup look, I feel very naked," Chappell tells Cosmo. She loves to channel drag-inspired elements in nearly every beauty moment. "My favorite type of drag is the very budget-friendly, shitty-wig, sweat-stained, clearly DIY vibe," she says. "It feels so real and good to me—I want to be free and raw, there's something so special about that type of grit and haphazarding your way through drag. I don’t love looking proper and perfect all the time."
Chappell also sticks to a specific formula when creating a beat. "A white foundation is essential for that classic theatrical club kid look that I reference a lot," she explains. "A bright orange red lipstick that won't budge...or one that completely smears off onto your teeth. I usually do one or the other. And a big lash and beauty mark of some kind."
Naturally, her signature powder-pale complexion, thin brows, and extravagant eyes are on full display in her debut appearance for the partnership. “Chappell’s first MAC campaign is a modern take on androgyny that feels powerful, graphic, and unmistakably her,” says makeup artist Andrew Dahling.
And Chappell has some advice for those beginning to experiment with bold makeup. "Try whatever you want, you can just wash it off if you hate it and no one ever has to know it happened. I had to lean into the recklessness and embarrassment of looking like a crayon box, and that took a long time."
For over a year, Chappell has collaborated with MAC on some of the most memorable moments of her career, including her SNL performance, the 2024 VMAs, and the Grammys. The brand promises that fans can expect exclusive surprises and bold creative moments throughout their long-term partnership, with plenty more iconic looks to come in the future.
