Honestly, I always believed I was destined to be a full-coverage foundation girl (I like everything covered, okay?). But now, at the ripe age of 26, I've realized that I'm actually more into a glowy, fresh look than I thought. Most importantly, I want products that actually take care of my skin as I’m using them. TBH, though, I’ve found the perfect in-between: tinted moisturizers.

Tinted moisturizers are just what they sound like: A light-to-medium foundation filled with hydrating and other skin-loving ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, glycerin, peptides, and some even contain good ol' sunscreen (although, this should def not be your only form of SPF protection). My search for finding the best tinted moisturizers comes from a great deal of trial and error, but the winners are truly held on a pedestal. From Hourglass Skin Tint to Kosas BB Burst to Laura Mercier’s Blurred Matte Tinted Moisturizer it’s hard to choose just one, so we listed 12 favorites to help you find the perfect tinted moisturizer for yourself.

Our top picks for the best tinted moisturizers of 2025:

Keep reading for the full list of the 15 best tinted moisturizers along with everything you need to know about choosing the right tinted moisturizer for your skin type and specific skin concerns.

1
Best Tinted Moisturizer Overall

Tarte Maracuja Hydrating Tinted Moisturizer

Maracuja Hydrating Tinted Moisturizer

Pros

  • Loaded with hydrating ingredients that make skin v glowy
  • Has a medium, buildable coverage

Cons

  • Some reviewers said finding their shade was difficult

This product is packed with hydrators (hi, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, and maracuja oil) to seriously give your skin a glow while you're wearing it and after. Don't worry, though, it doesn't feel heavy or suffocating on skin; although, it offers surprisingly great coverage for such a lightweight formula. If you wake up one day feeling like you want a bit more coverage on your skin, you can easily build this up in a few layers.

  • Key ingredients: Maracuja oil, hyaluronic acid, aloe
  • Coverage: Medium
  • Finish: Dewy

One Cosmo editor says: "I rely on this in the summertime when I want a lil more coverage for special occasions but still prefer a fresh vibe. It's extremely lightweight but covers a lot. It's pretty damn long-lasting too—I checked the mirror more than 10 hours after I had applied it and still didn't need to touch up." — Beth Gillette, beauty editor

2
Best Tinted Moisturizer For A Natural Finish

Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint Foundation

Veil Hydrating Skin Tint Foundation

Pros

  • Holy Grail Award winner
  • Doesn't irritate sensitive skin, according to a slew of reviews

Cons

  • Most expensive tinted moisturizer on this list

So, I just found out this is what gave Gracie Abrams such a stunning glow on her Cosmo cover. And ya know what, I see why she loves it, because it's fantastic for that "your skin, but better" look. It'll help even out your skin tone and add a smidge of coverage on any acne or dark spots, but it still feels and looks just like your natural skin.

Although it's called a "skin tint foundation," it's actually super hydrating on skin, thanks to a mix of hyaluronic acid and squalane. Plus, meadowfoam seed oil helps give it a sheen on your skin without looking oily or cakey.

  • Key ingredients: Hyaluronic acid, squalane, meadowfoam seed oil
  • Coverage: Light-to-medium
  • Finish: Natural

One Cosmo editor says: “This tinted moisturizer gives my skin that plump, juicy look that I crave. And the tint is just right—sheer and blendable but still opaque enough to provide some meaningful coverage.”— Lauren Balsamo, beauty director

Best Anti-Aging Tinted Moisturizer

Kosas BB Burst Tinted Face Gel Cream

BB Burst Tinted Face Gel Cream
Now 25% Off

Pros

  • Helps plump up skin with peptides
  • Extremely lightweight gel formula

Cons

  • A few testers said it got patchy when applied with a sponge

Copper peptides are the MVP ingredient in this tinted moisturizer if you're looking for an anti-aging formula—they help firm and plump skin by supporting collagen production over time. While the product is on, though, it helps cover up discoloration and soothes sensitive skin with sodium PCA and zinc. The light coverage is buildable, but feels extremely light on skin, thanks to the gel texture that blends so easily with a sponge, brush, or fingers.

  • Key ingredients: Peptides, sodium PCA, zinc
  • Coverage: Light
  • Finish: Dewy

One Cosmo editor says: "This creamy formula has a shocking amount of coverage for something that feels so serum-like on my face. I dab it on my face with a beauty sponge, and it's glowy but not too oily." — BG

Tinted Moisturizer Oil Free Blurred Matte SPF 30

Pros

  • Helps keep oily skin shine-free

Cons

  • A few testers wished it had more coverage

The O.G. Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer is the GOAT (keep scrolling for our take on this one), but if you have oily skin and still want light coverage, this new version is fantastic. It sometimes feels impossible to find a matte tinted moisturizer that doesn’t totally dry our skin out. Luckily, Laura Mercier did us a favor and packed this moisturizer with a mix of different powders and kaolin clay to help mattify and keep shine down. However, it's not drying (shout-out, rose extract and vitamin E).

  • Key ingredients: Kaolin clay, vitamin E, rose extract
  • Coverage: Medium
  • Finish: Matte

One Cosmo reader says: "I’m actually impressed with the coverage as well, it’s buildable without having that cakey feel. It's very, very lightweight! It’s not too matte where you look dull, though. I can say it definitely just smooths and evens out your skin. Great for every day look!"

Best Tinted Moisturizer for Deep Skin Tones

Ami Colé Skin-Enhancing Tinted Moisturizer

Skin-Enhancing Tinted Moisturizer
AmazonAlso Consider

Pros

  • Great mix of dark shades with varying undertones
  • Hydrating on skin, but not too dewy (so great for all skin types)

Cons

  • Wish it came in a wider range of light to medium shades

here was a time when tinted moisturizers came in three to four shades, max—none of which would be deep enough for a dark skin tone. Not this one. This product offers a medium coverage with a natural finish that is literally made to look just like your skin, which is why it's so important that it also comes in a great mix of deep shades. It's also hydrating, but doesn't feel too oily on skin, making it pretty suitable for just about every skin type.

  • Key ingredients: Baobab extract, hibiscus extract, vitamin E
  • Coverage: Medium
  • Finish: Natural

One Cosmo reader says: "I’ve been working on improving my skin texture and evenness, and I wanted a base that provides coverage without feeling too heavy. This one is perfect! It evens out the tone across my face and chest and doesn’t feel like it’s sitting on my skin, even after wearing it for 8+ hours."

6
Best Tinted Moisturizer for Sensitive Skin

Saie Slip Tint Tinted Moisturizer SPF 35 Sunscreen

Slip Tint Tinted Moisturizer SPF 35 Sunscreen

Pros

  • Ultra-moisturizing formula is ideal for dry skin types
  • Doesn't irritate my sensitive skin

Cons

  • Testers say the finish is too shiny for oily skin types

As a member of the sensitive skin community, I am usually very hesitant to try new products, as I am always worried that I will break out. However, the Saie Slip Tinth has become a staple in my routine. For days that I don’t feel like wearing makeup, but want a little something for light coverage, this is always in my hand (and on my face). My favorite aspect of this tinted moisturizer is that it has SPF 35 protection and acts like a shield against harmful rays.

  • Key ingredients: Rose water, hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil
  • Coverage: Light
  • Finish: Dewy

One Cosmo editor says: "Okay, there’s nothing this tinted moisturizer CAN’T do. Its formula is super hydrating, it’s packed with SPF, smooths out my skin, and perfectly covers my blemishes all at the same time… talk about a freaking multitasker. Which tinted moisturizers are best?

black line

The best tinted moisturizers contain hydrating and moisturizing ingredients (like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and squalane) and buildable pigments that conceal things like acne, chronic redness, and hyperpigmentation. Many top-rated tinted moisturizers also contain SPF 30 or more to help protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays.

What's the difference between tinted moisturizer and BB cream?

black line

Tinted moisturizers, BB creams, CC creams, skin tints...think of them like cousins. They're all related, but look, act, and feel slightly different. Here's a quickie breakdown:

  • Tinted moisturizers hydrate and correct. They typically have the same consistency as a lightweight face lotion and, as I mentioned previously, contain a combo of hydrating ingredients and buildable pigments camouflage things like hyperpigmentation and redness.
  • BB creams and CC creams correct and cover. They usually have a thick, cream-like texture and contain targeted skincare ingredients and medium-to-full coverage pigments to fully conceal things like cystic acne and rosacea.
  • Skin tints give your skin a subtle glow. They typically have a serum-like texture and provide sheer coverage (similar to a lightweight foundation) to diffuse the look of spots and marks and improve your overall skin tone.

How to choose a tinted moisturizer:

black line

Look for a tinted moisturizer with ingredients for your specific skin type.

Just like regular face moisturizers, tinted moisturizers are formulated with different types of ingredients for different skin types and concerns. If your skin is super dry, you'll want to choose a nourishing formula that's made with ceramides and heavier moisturizing ingredients like jojoba oil and shea butter. If your skin is on the oily side, a formula made with mattifying ingredients will be your best bet. And if you're looking to brighten your skin tone or improve your skin texture, a tinted moisturizer that's made with antioxidants, like vitamin C and/or niacinamide, will help get the job done.

Pay attention to the texture and finish.

Love a glowy skin moment? Any tinted moisturizer that's labeled "dewy" "radiant" or "luminous" will help you achieve that effect. If you prefer a more natural finish with your makeup, keep an eye out for words like "matte" "satin" and "blurring"—they'll still make your skin look smooth and healthy but not as shiny as the glow-boosting formulas.
