Amazon Prime Video's new TV series brings us another iconic crimefighter by the name Renée Ballard.
Ballard is a spinoff from Prime Video's hit series Bosch. It follows Detective Renée Ballard as she leads the Los Angeles Police Department's new cold cases division, which looks into long-forgotten crimes that never got solved. They are these dead-end cases' last hope, and under Detective Ballard's leadership they're able to get a lot done. But with the unit being extremely underfunded and run by reserve police officers and volunteers, most days it feels like a thankless job. That is, until the team uncovers a chain of 14 related murders, allowing them to take the lead on a potential serial killer case.

Maggie Q as Renée Ballard
Renée can't imagine doing anything other than being a detective. Fighting crime and defending justice was the job she was always meant to do. But something she did in the last year has cost her her position in the homicide division, and she is forced to take the lead on cold cases. As she takes on this new job, Detective Ballard also has to reckon with dangerous situations, and her own personal trauma.
You may recognize the queen of action Maggie Quigley a.k.a. Maggie Q from films like Mission Impossible III and the Divergent series, as well as shows including her starring role in Nikita.

Courtney Taylor as Samira Parker
Samira is a former police officer who left the force five years ago. But she gets convinced to get back on the job when her former mentor, Detective Ballard, convinces her to join the cold case unit. And as she helps bring peace and justice to once-hopeless families, she begins to restore her own sense of justice.
Courtney Taylor is most recognizable from her recurring role as Erica on Abbott Elementary. She's also starred in other comedy shows such as Send Help and Shrinking.

John Carroll Lynch as Thomas Laffont
Thomas is a retired police officer who used to be Ballard's partner. He returns to join the cold cases division, bringing his years-worth of experience. He's not just a seasoned detective, but is also kind and wise, which helps ground Renée and the whole unit.
John Carroll Lynch got his big break as Norm Gunderson in Fargo. You might also recognize him from The Drew Carey Show, American Horror Story, and films such as Zodiac and The Founder.

Rebecca Field as Colleen Hatteras
Colleen is a genealogical researcher who volunteers to help out the cold cases unit. While the team is thankful for her service, she can also get overly-enthusiastic. She also believes that her intuition is a reliable tool when it comes to solving cases.
Rebecca Field is an American actress who has starred in shows including The Client List and Netflix's The Residence. She's also appeared on Grey's Anatomy and the movie A Star Is Born.

Michael Mosley as Ted Rawls
Ted is a reserve police officer who is placed in the cold cases Unit specifically to keep an eye on Detective Ballard. Of course, as he goes about his assignment, he can't help but form a bond with the rest of the team.

Martina is a university student and legal intern who gets assigned to the LAPD's cold cases division. She's young, scrappy, and ready to help.

Ricardo Chavira as Robert Olivas
Robert is the commander of the Robbery-Homicide Division in the LAPD. He used to be Ballard's boss, and took advantage of his position in power. But when Ballard reported his behavior, this led to her removal from the RHD squad and demotion. He was cleared and suffered no consequences for his actions.
Ricardo Chavira is best known for his role as Gaby's husband Carlos Solis on The Desperate Housewives. He's also appeared on The Santa Clarita Diet, Scandal, and other shows.

Noah Bean as Jake Pearlman
Jake Pearlman is a councilman who helped establish the LAPD's cold cases division.

Nelson is a political figure and longtime friend of Councilman Jake Pearlman. He goes to great lengths just to support his buddy.

Of course a Bosch spinoff means Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch himself makes an appearance on the show. For those who don't watch the series (and you don't have to before watching Ballard), Bosch is a veteran LAPD homicide detective—the best of the best. He's a man on a mission who doesn't stop until justice is served.
