Josh Hutcherson said what he said! During a December 2025 interview with i-D Magazine, the I Love LA actor admitted to his costar, Jordan Firstman, that he wasn’t a Taylor Swift fan. At the time, he faced some backlash from Swifties all over the internet, as he was spotted attending the New Orleans stop of her Eras Tour in October 2024 and even traded friendship bracelets with fans. Now, Josh has clarified his initial comments in a new interview with British GQ.

“I got some heat because I did a photo shoot with Jordan, and Jordan asked me something about being a [Taylor Swift fan], and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m definitely not a Swiftie,’” he explained. “All of a sudden, it garnered this, ‘Fuck him! He’s a monster! Destroy him! He’s short! He hates her because he’s short!’ It’s just like, whoa! I think she’s great. Her music is not my kind of music.”

He added that such negativity is what drove him off the internet in the first place. “That is why I don’t want to be online,” he shared. “I don’t need that energy. It’s counterintuitive to my job, because if people know you more, you can’t disappear into characters. They see you as, ‘Oh, that’s Josh.’ You know what I mean? So, if you’re a fucking meme, people know you for the meme.”

“Are you a Swiftie?” Jordan asked during the original interview, to which Josh replied, “I’m not a Swiftie, very much not. No shade, all respect, but definitely not.”

In fact, his mom happens to be the Swiftie of his family, since they attended the Eras Tour together. While scrolling through photos from their camera rolls, Josh showed a photo of himself and his mom at the show, which he explained she “made him” go to at the time.

Not everyone subscribes to Swiftian prophecy, and that’s okay. So, in the words of Ms. Swift herself: You need to calm down, because it doesn’t seem like there’s any bad blood here.
