The Pitt is wrapping up its second season, and things have been dramatic at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center to say the least. From interpersonal tension with the staff (will Robby and Langdon ever make amends?), to Baby Jane Doe’s (Baby! Jane! Doe!) storyline, to some of the most gruesome medical events we’ve seen with our eyeballs, to Robby’s vibes being increasingly off / worrying, this season has been intense. But things will only be escalating from here, because The Pitt season 3 is incoming. Here’s what we know about our next visit to PTMC.
Has The Pitt Been Renewed for Season 3?
It sure has. The show was renewed right at the beginning of Season 2, so it’s fair to say HBO is confident in its long-term success!
When Is The Pitt Season 3 Coming Out?
Potentially, pretty soon. Season 1 premiered January 9, 2025, and Season 2 premiered almost exactly a year later on January 8, 2026. This means production is very quick, and we could be looking at getting Season 3 as early as January 2027.
How Much Time Will Take Place Between Seasons?
10 months elapsed during The Pitt Season 1 and The Pitt Season 2, but the length of time between Season 2 and Season 3 will be significantly shorter: just four months! Coincidentally, that’s about a month longer than Dr. Robby’s sabbatical, so the show should catch up with him back at work.
Has Production on The Pitt Season 3 Started?
Not yet, but soon! Production is reportedly scheduled to begin in June 2026. Note: June is also when The Pitt Season 2 started production, which makes the chances of a January 2027 premiere date even higher!
Who’s in The Pitt Season 3 Cast?
We don’t know everyone returning just yet, but we do know who isn’t. Supriya Ganesh, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, is sadly leaving the show.
Noah Wyle explained the decision, saying “It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically. Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh, but obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning. Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.”
Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill added, “It’s sort of the nature of the show. Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible. So we’re going to turn over our cast. But I think it’s a great launching pad for people and that’s the best we can do.”
Meanwhile, Ayesha Harris, who plays Dr. Parker Ellis, has been promoted to a series regular.
What Will The Pitt Season 3 Be About?
Unclear! But the season will definitely center on medical emergencies that happen in the colder weather, which is one of the reasons for the four-month time jump that places the show in November.
Noah Wyle also talked about the season’s theme, telling Variety, “The thesis of Season 1 is the doctor is the patient. Season 2, doctors don’t make very good patients. Season 3, doctors benefit from being patients.”
