Olivia Rodrigo is officially releasing “drop dead,” the lead single for her third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, on Friday, April 17. So, in other words: We’re so incredibly back.

On Thursday, April 9, the Grammy winner gave fans a taste of what’s to come with a short instrumental snippet of the track she posted across her social media channels. The clip, which features a few seconds of her new song, also shows a few pints of Guinness beer with pink text that reads, “I hope you never finish that beer.”

Naturally, Livies put on their investigative caps and got to work on some theories. While there are no lyrics featured in Olivia’s teaser—just an instrumental followed by a deep breath—fans took the Guinness as a sign that the song might allude to Louis Partridge.

For starters (as fans on a FauxMoi Reddit thread pointed out), the British actor starred in a Netflix series called House of Guinness back in September 2025. At the time, Olivia celebrated the milestone with a supportive post of Louis sipping on the beer on her Instagram Stories…and that wasn’t the only time she posted herself or Louis enjoying a pint, either.

While nothing has been confirmed or denied, it’s important to note that eagle-eyed internet sleuths noticed that the cover art for you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is eerily similar to a French Rococo-era painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, which Louis also posted in a photo dump. It’s unclear whether her cover was actually inspired by “The Swing,” but we’ll let you be the judge:

Speaking of album theories, fans are also convinced the album might be split into two parts: “girl so in love” and “you seem pretty sad,” based on each side of its cassette tape. Though the tracklist hasn’t been revealed, one fan noted that if this theory holds and “drop dead” is track 7, it might be part of the “you seem pretty sad” side of the album.

However! ^^^ Take all of this with a grain of salt, as nothing’s been confirmed by Olivia or her team.

It’s also unlikely that Liv will confirm if the song is about anyone at all. When her second album, GUTS, dropped in September 2023, O-Rod told The Guardian, “I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.”
