The Pitt fans were shocked to the hear that series star Supriya Ganesh would be leaving the show after two seasons. The actor, who plays Dr. Samira Mohan, will be officially leaving the iconic emergency room once the series wraps up its season in just a few short weeks.
And while there’s still three episodes between now and the finale that may offer some hints to her exit, Supriya already had some idea of what they wanted to do next after wrapping up on the series.
“The Pitt is so realistic that I would love to do something that’s just absurd and weird. Maybe a horror or an art house indie movie,” they told Cosmopolitan back in January. “There’s so much for South Asian women to explore and do in this industry, and I think things are changing now, but there’s so much further to go. I just really want to break new ground in film and play a character that’s just really weird and interesting and very different from Samira.”
The actor hasn’t made a statement on their leave from the show, but Variety noted in their exclusive report that, “Ganesh’s exit is a story-driven decision.”
This is the second time a lead actor has left the show. Tracy Ifeachor also left the series after the show’s first season without very little explanation as to why or whether it was her decision or not to leave.
Producer John Wells later told The Hollywood Reporter,“Look, the show is set at a teaching hospital. And if you’re a fourth-year resident in a teaching hospital, your time there is done at the end of that year.”
“Not to scare any of the other castmembers, but people don’t stay at these hospitals forever. They’re going to roll off, and that will be part of the evolution of the show,” he continued. “We’re not committed to doing a year every season as we go on, but we can’t say that we’re going to be true to the medicine and teaching hospitals and maintain the same cast for the entire time.”
There is a possibility that Dr. Mohan may move to New Jersey after her residency, as previously hinted in earlier episodes this season. However, fans will have to tune in to the season 2 finale on April 16, 2026 to possibly find out what’s next for her.
