Last week at Cosmo HQ, we took a moment amidst Summer issue prep and Bachelorette chaos to celebrate our Young Miko digital cover. Putting this story out into the world had us dreaming about our January trip to Puerto Rico, where we interviewed and photographed Miko in her hometown amidst the NYC blizzards. We visited her favorite beach, dined at her favorite restaurant, and captured some of our favorite shots at Hotel El Convento in Old San Juan, which doubled as our home base for the weekend. And, when the snow began and airports swiftly shut down, the Hotel El Convento team was kind enough to host us for an extra evening.
Even before we had the extra night to explore, it was impossible to miss the hotel’s stunning details. We soon learned that the property is one of Hotels.com’s “Salvaged Stays” — historic buildings that have been transformed into gorgeous hotels. El Convento’s story began as a convent in the 17th century and took on its new life as a hotel in the ‘60s. If staying somewhere with a past life is up your alley, Hotels.com has a list of 2026’s top Salvaged Stays:
