Confession: I was rooting for Theresa DeMaria and John Merrill from Age of Attraction, and I don’t care who knows it. The season’s cutest couple also happened to be one of the most controversial, since 54-year-old stylist Theresa is literally twice the age of 27-year-old software salesman John…not to mention that Theresa gave birth to the eldest of her three children before John was even alive. They definitely had the odds stacked against them but eventually decided (*spoiler alert*) to leave the experiment as a couple. The question is: Are Age of Attraction’s Theresa and John still together today?
Ahead of the finale, I did a deep dive into Theresa and John’s social media activity to see if I could find out where the two stand in 2026. (For the record: Age of Attraction season 1 was filmed back in early summer 2025.) And while neither had posted any spoilers, John did post a TikTok showing BTS moments of his real life “rom com” with Theresa, and she slid into the comments section with a bunch of red heart emojis…so that felt promising!
Plus, Theresa posted her own TikTok with clips from her Age of Attraction experience…and some never-before-seen moments with “the incredible man that is John.” Hmm…
“The experience of filming Age of Attraction—and meeting the incredible man that is John—was something I never saw coming,” she wrote. “I went into it hoping to find my person… but I walked away with something even deeper: clarity, growth, and a completely new perspective on love.”
But unfortunately, Theresa and John later confirmed that they split during a video interview with Entertainment Tonight (which has since been made private), with John noting that age had been a contributing factor in the breakup.
“We dated for, like, six months after the show,” John said, “and just being out in public…it just wore, wore, wore on her. That’s what ended up breaking us up.”
Still, Theresa took to social media soon after the interview dropped to post yet another video to keep fans guessing. Her caption: “Maybe the rumors are true? And maybe they’re not?”
Guess we’ll find out more about what went wrong for these two once the reunion airs next week.
