- ABC has reportedly found a last-minute replacement for The Bachelorette’s canceled premiere slot.
- The schedule change follows ABC’s decision not to air Taylor Frankie Paul’s season of The Bachelorette.
- Gabby Windey’s new dating show, Love Overboard, is still scheduled to premiere at 10 p.m. the same night as planned.
As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, ABC made the decision to cancel Taylor Frankie Paul’s season of The Bachelorette just days before it was scheduled to premiere amid domestic assault allegations involving the reality star. But the question remains: What will the network air in its place? The two-hour premiere episode for The Bachelorette season 22 was set to air this Sunday, March 22, at 8 p.m. ET, and while it’s unclear what ABC will air in its place for the rest of the season, there is reportedly a solution for this Sunday at least.
According to People, to fill that Sunday night gap, ABC is planning to air (*drum roll pls*) a rerun of American Idol in The Bachelorette’s place. (Yes, really.) That rerun will then be followed by the premiere of the new Gabby Windey-hosted reality dating show, Love Overboard, at 10 p.m. ET as scheduled.
Which episode of American Idol, you ask? The episode in question will be the eighth episode of season 24, which originally aired on Monday, March 16, featuring Keke Palmer and Brad Paisley as guest mentors and the top 20 contestants at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii. Sure, why not!!
In case you missed it: A Disney Entertainment Television spokesperson announced Thursday, March 19, that “in light of the newly released video just surfaced today, we have made the decision to not move forward with the new season of The Bachelorette at this time, andour focus is on supporting the family.”
The cancellation comes days after reports that Taylor and her ex, Dakota Mortensen, were involved in a domestic dispute. People published a quote from a Draper City Police Department spokesperson, who confirmed there is an open “domestic assault investigation” regarding Taylor and Dakota and that “allegations have been made in both directions.”
