One Piece season 2 is defffffinitely setting the stage for a reveal about Luffy’s dad, and at this point, you might be wondering if the man in question is Gol D. Roger. Mostly because (1) he and Luffy have a lot in common—down to their laugh in the face of death, and (2) we just found out that Gol D. Roger asked Garp—Luffy’s grandfather—to raise his son for him.
So…is Luffy the son in question? Nope! But we have met his dad onscreen…very briefly.
Luffy’s father is none other than Monkey D. Dragon, the mysterious tattooed figure wearing a hood who helped save him from Smoker in the first episode of the second season.
According to the One Piece fandom wiki site, Monkey D. Dragon is the founder of the Revolutionary Army, who used to be a marine and is currently going up against the World Government. Dragon is Garp’s son, but at this point it doesn’t seem like Luffy knows his true identity. Nor does he seem that bothered by it, due to his single-minded focus on finding the One Piece. That said, it seems likely that we haven’t seen the last of Monkey D. Dragon!
As for the identity of Gol D. Roger’s son? That’d be Portgas D. Ace, Luffy’s sworn brother who is joining the cast for season 3 and will be played by Xolo Maridueña.
