You really never know what people are up to in the suburbs. The new dark comedy on HBO and HBO Max, DTF St. Louis, is part murder mystery and part love triangle. If you’re looking to check out your options, get to know the cast and characters here.

Make that doomed love triangle, TBH, given the murder of it all. One day you’re flirting over corn-hole and/or downloading the fictional equivalent of the Ashley Madison dating site for discreet affairs. The next, you’re at the center of a crime that gets weirder and weirder. People just can’t connect in normal ways anymore!

David Harbour plays Floyd Smernitch

Individual performing on stage at a live event.
Tina Rowden/HBO//HBO

Floyd is an ASL interpreter feeling dissatisfied in his marriage. To say he isn’t the only one would be a major understatement. He also, unfortunately, dies under very mysterious circumstances.

Before playing Jim Hopper on Stranger Things for close to a decade, Harbour appeared on shows like State of Affairs, Manhattan, and Pan Am. His film credits include Brokeback Mountain, Quantum of Solace, and Revolutionary Road. You may have also seen him play the titular role in Hellboy, a member of the Suicide Squad, or Red Guardian in MCU movies like Black Widow and Thunderbolts*. To cap it off, Harbour is a prolific and Tony-nominated New York stage actor.

Jason Bateman plays Clark Forrest

Green screen studio scene
Tina Rowden/HBO//HBO

Clark is a local weather man accused to killing his friend Floyd, who also happens to be his mistress’ husband.

Bateman is best known for two television shows that, IMHO, could not be more dissimilar: Arrested Development and Ozark. He has an Emmy for the former and a Golden Globe for directing himself and others in an episode of the latter. Movie-wise, you’ve also seen Bateman in Horrible Bosses, Dodgeball, Juno, and Game Night… and of course heard him as Nick Wilde in Zootopia.

Linda Cardellini plays Carol Smernitch

A woman holding a can and wearing a floral dress.
Tina Rowden/HBO//HBO

In addition to sleeping with Clark, Floyd’s wife has recently taken up a side hustle as an umpire for a local little league team.

Cardellini is iconic for so many roles, depending on who you ask. Velma in the live action Scooby Doo movies? Chutney “forgot the cardinal rule of perm maintenance” Windham in Legally Blonde? Lindsay Weir in Freaks and Geeks? ER? Mad Men? Dead to Me? Also Brokeback Mountain? If you insist, Hawkeye’s wife in the MCU? Queen.

Richard Jenkins plays Donoghue Homer

A person sitting on a stone block in a minimalist setting.
Tina Rowden/HBO//HBO

Homer is the detective assigned to the case.

Jenkins is best known for films like Step Brothers, Burn After Reading, The Cabin in the Woods, The Shape of Water, and The Visitor. He recently played Lionel Dahmer in Monster. He also played the recently deceased patriarch of the Fisher family on Six Feet Under.

Joy Sunday plays Jodie Plumb

Individual in a neutral-toned sweater and a collared shirt, holding a bag strap.
Tina Rowden/HBO//HBO

Jodie is a special crimes officer assigned to the case.

You’ve seen Sunday as Bianca Barclay, the popular siren, on Wednesday. Her other credits include the films Bad Hair and Shithouse and the series Dear White People.

Wynn Everett plays Eimy Forrest

Person holding a phone while standing by a window.
Tina Rowden/HBO//HBO

Eimy is Clark’s wife who, uhh, really didn’t ask for ANY of this!

Everett plays Tricia Yeager, booster club president, on Chad Powers. She had a recurring role on The Newsroom too, and the short-lived Netflix series Teenage Bounty Hunters. She also played a DC comics villain on Doom Patrol and a Marvel comics villain on Agent Carter and the animated Avengers Assemble.

Peter Sarsgaard plays [REDACTED]

Person seated on a concrete platform, surrounded by vertical wooden slats.
Tina Rowden/HBO//HBO

OK, it’s not that secretive. But his character doesn’t show up immediately on the show and I would hate to give it away. Suffice to say, he is an important character in the unfolding mystery about these middle-aged adulterers.

Sarsgaard can be seen in his wife Maggie Gyllenhaal’s film The Bride! in theaters now. He played a key role in her directorial debut The Lost Daughter as well. You’ve also seen him in films such as The Batman, Orphan, Jarhead, Shattered Glass, Garden State, Kinsey, Boys Don’t Cry, and An Education.
