  • Read on to learn how School Spirits season 3 ended, but please be warned: Spoilers ahead.

With ghosts, gates, and grave depictions of purgatory, season 3 of School Spirits truly had it all. Luckily for those watching at home, some of this season’s most pressing questions finally got answered, but as with any good show, the last few minutes left quite a few *ahem* troublesome crumbs for fans to obsess over in a potential season 4.

Did Split River High actually get demolished? What does Maddie find on the other of that door she crossed in episode 7? And WTF is up with Sandra??? Read on to find out what happened in the finale episode of School Spirits season 3, but consider this your official warning: many spoilers are ahead.

Does Simon make it make to the real world?

Maddie, Wally and Dawn catch up with Janet and Simon in the forest (the same forest Maddie entered in episode 7), but Simon doesn't remember who he is. Simon and Maddie are dragged into a mirror memory—feel good memories that block the abilities to understand who you or what your motivations are—as she tries to save him, but she successfully breaks through their fugue states and are back in the forest with the rest of the group.

Despite being hesitant to cross over, Dave walks through his own door after realizing it could help Maddie and Simon get back to the hospital. Simon finally does make his way back to the real world, and as a plus, knocks out Dr. Hunter-Price/Alfred over the head with a fire extinguisher moments after he threatens violence to all.

Why did Alfred Van Heidt take over Dr. Hunter-Price's body?

Short answer: He's evil! But the long answer is a bit more complex, of course. The finale sees the students of Split River High voting on if the school should be demolished, like Dr. Deborah Hunter-Price wants—as a refresher, Kyle denies Deborah the opportunity to demolish the school, a transaction that would have made her $250,000 richer. But Alfred takes over her body and sets fire to the school with the hopes of him killing everyone inside. By the time firefighters arrive, Alfred manages to escape and enters Sandra's body by the end of the season, setting the stage for a very interesting season 4.

Wait, can spirits actually leave the school now?

Maybe. After all the drama comes to a close, Yuri tells Charley that he's going for a smoke—Charley tells him to take a shortcut, AKA leaving the school to get to the greenhouse where he died. So when Yuri gives it a shot, to his surprise, he's actually able to cross the street, hinting that spirits just might be able to go farther beyond the school after the fire. Much to think about!
