• The entirety of Bridgerton season 4 is available to stream on Netflix now.
  • Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page played Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset in the show’s breakout first season and later left to pursue other projects.
  • Bridgerton showrunner, Jess Brownell, commented on whether Netflix will recast Phoebe and Regé-Jean’s roles for the hit show’s fifth season.

The final batch of episodes from Bridgerton season four is available to stream on Netflix, which means it’s time to fully dive into and obsess over Benedict Bridgerton and Sophie Baek’s romance.

A lot has changed in the Ton, including the show’s cast. While some of the Bridgerton siblings, like Francesca, were recast due to scheduling conflicts with the original actor, other roles have been scaled back or diminished entirely. (ICYMI, that’s why Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley have had such limited screentime in seasons three and four.)

That brings us to Phoebe Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page, who broke out from Bridgerton into the mainstream, thanks to their roles as Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset all the way back in season one. Phoebe hasn’t returned to our screens since season two (and Regé-Jean hasn’t returned at all), which has fans questioning whether the show’s producers would consider recasting them for the upcoming fifth season as the family’s story progresses.

On February 26, showrunner Jess Brownell told Variety, “We are not interested in recasting the characters. I think it would feel like a disservice to everything Regé and Phoebe set up in season one, and all the beautiful work they put into those characters.”

She also addressed why Phoebe and Regé didn’t reprise their roles for Lord John Stirling’s funeral this season.

“We would love to potentially have them back at some point, but I think, logistically, we want to make sure we bring them back when we have something really meaty for them,” Jess continued. “And to have them come back to say a line at a funeral and just prove that they were there, it wouldn’t feel right for many reasons.”

Back in April 2021, Regé revealed he wouldn’t return as Simon via a Lady Whistledown letter on Netflix’s social media channels. The following year, he told Variety that he had no issue with producers recasting him, saying the team was “free to do as they like.”

As for Phoebe, she returned for a brief stint as Daphne in season two and never returned. But, in January 2025, she told The Direct that Netflix had not reached out to her for season four. “I mean, they’ve not called me yet. And I think they’re shooting season four right now. So, I’m still waiting for that call,” she said at the time.

Though they haven’t been back for a minute, Jess shared that she would “love to find a time to bring everyone back at some point in the future.”

Duly noted!!
