Benedict and Sophie got married in a post-credits scene at the end of Bridgerton season 4, and the entire family was there. Well...almost the entire family. Daphne Bridgerton and Simon Basset were nowhere to be found—despite this wedding including all the other couples from past seasons (Penelope and Colin + Anthony and Kate). And if you’re wondering why, it’s pretty simple.…Neither Regé-Jean Page nor Phoebe Dynevor signed onto this season!
While Phoebe popped up in season 2 after being the lead in season 1, she wasn’t cast in season 4—despite being up for a cameo. As she put it to Screen Rant mid-production, “Do I plan to revisit Daphne? Yeah, if they want me back. I haven’t got the call yet, but I’m available. I hear they’re shooting season 4, so....” (Note: She also told The Direct, “I mean, they’ve not called me yet. And I think they’re shooting season 4 right now. So I’m still waiting for that call.”)
Meanwhile, Regé-Jean hasn’t returned to Bridgerton since season 1 and has made it clear he doesn’t plan to. “I’m very happy to support everyone who’s in the show,” Regé told Entertainment Tonight when asked about a potential cameo. “Everyone’s finding fantastic success both with the show and personal projects. I’m just super happy to see that.”
The show didn’t go to too much trouble explaining Simon and Daphne’s absence, but they are the Duke and Duchess of Hastings and have a bunch of kids so...they’re busy!
