- Ex-Prince Andrew was arrested on his 66th birthday and could face trial.
Welp, there are renewed calls for King Charles to abdicate the throne amid Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest for "suspicion of misconduct in public office."
Andrew has been a source of maaaajor tension between King Charles and Prince William for months at this point, and a source tells the Daily Mail that "William absolutely loathes his uncle and has for years. He would have Andrew banished," an insider says. "He told his father: 'It's either him or me.' So, Charles had to step up and ice Andrew out."
Royal sources say Charles continuing to allow Andrew to live on private royal property (he's currently staying at Wood Farm in Sandringham) tarnishes his legacy, and one person notes that "Charles is now a lame duck."
Meanwhile, Daily Mail royal expert Maureen Callahan writes that the "The King could wait a few weeks or months before citing his continued ill health" but ultimately "Charles must give up his crown in order to save it."
No word whether this is a realistic move for the royals, but...stay tuned because wilder things have happened in this family.
