Attn: The third season of Netflix’s The Night Agent is finally here, and once again, we can’t help but wonder whether Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan are an item IRL. The pair played love interests Peter and Rose in the political thriller series during its first two seasons, which means their onscreen chemistry is impeccable. And fans have noticed it’s translated offscreen during their joint press appearances, too.
So, are Gabriel and Luciane dating in real life? Here’s what they’ve said about their connection...as well as Luciane’s absence from season three.
Are The Night Agent actors Gabriel Basso and Luciane Buchanan dating?
While both of their love lives seem low-key—and we mean extremely low-key—they’ve talked about their connection amid ongoing dating rumors.
“She’s great,” Gabriel told Swooon of Luciane in January 2025. “We just sort of let each other do our own thing. There were scenes where we worked out together what should happen and the pacing of it, and this is a consistent thing, but overall, it was just sort of putting on some old clothes. They fit right and we got into the swing of things for sure.”
She agreed, saying that it was “really easy” to work with Gabriel.
“We were both away from home, and we both were just sort of thrown into this, so we both bonded over that,” he explained, adding, “Also, I think the way it was written was really gradual. It would have been a lot more difficult to portray had they been like, 'Oh, you save her; now you're together.' It felt really grounded and realistic, and all my strengths were her weaknesses, and her strengths were my weaknesses. It was very complementary, and we never felt like we were competing for anything narratively.”
It’s unclear whether Gabriel remains single or he has a wife he keeps out of the spotlight, but according to Distractify, he confirmed he has a daughter from a previous relationship in an August 2020 social media post.
Why isn’t Luciane Buchanan in The Night Agent season 3?
If you’re wondering why Luciane’s Rose Larkin is conspicuously absent from the show’s third season, creator Shawn Ryan explained the decision in a recent interview with Deadline, saying that the character simply didn’t fit with the direction of the show going forward.
“In the writers room, we certainly discussed it, in fact, that was our starting position: What would a Peter-Rose-centric story in season three look like?” he said. “There were moments in that conversation that felt a little derivative of the first couple seasons. And then we challenged ourselves, what would it look like without Rose the season, and we came up with a lot of what you see in season three. So it was completely a creative decision.”
He added that the decision was nothing “personal” against Luciane, adding, “I love Luciane as an actress, I love her as a person and if and when we have the right storyline for her we’ll beg her to come back to the show. In this case, we came up with the idea of Isabel as Jacob Monroe’s estranged daughter, the financial world, which is not Rose’s world at all.”
And how does Gabriel feel about Luciane not being part of the season? “We text every now and then, I texted her during the season,” he told Deadline. “Everybody missed her. Everybody on set loves her, she was great to have, and her presence as Luciane was missed for sure.”
