Fallout, the runaway hit series based on the massively popular role-playing video game series, just wrapped up its second season on Prime Video. Here's everything we know about Fallout Season 3.
The series stars Ella Purnell, Walton Goggins, Kyle MacLachlan, Aaron Morten, Frances Turner, and Moisés Arias as the survivors of a nuclear fallout event in 2077–many of whom were frozen underground for over 200 years. Corporations have set up pristine, some might say naïve, scientific communities in "vaults" safe from the war-torn wasteland above the surface. When Purnell's character, a vault dweller named Lucy, decides to go above ground and search for her missing father, those post-apocalyptic worlds collide. In the second season, her journey continued, and we learned even more about what went down in 2077 to make the world the dangerous place it is in the story's present.
Is Fallout season 3 even happening??
Yes! Cue up the retro soundtrack. This has actually been in the cards for a while. Per Deadline, Amazon Studios renewed the science fiction dystopian series for a third season way back in May of 2025, well before the release of season 2.
What would Fallout season 3 be about?
The season 2 finale offered up plenty of cliffhangers, unanswered questions, and potential conflicts for season 3 already. There are also, of course, four video games in the Fallout series, a fifth to come, so many spin-off games and tabletop games and other media that the show can use to adapt. For example, a lot of season 2 drew from the spin-off Fallout: New Vegas for both characters and locations, obviously; and it's looking like season 3 will spend time there as well.
Who would be in the cast?
There's nothing to suggest that most of the main cast won't return for season 3. I'm a little nervous about Turner returning as Barbara Howard, after the reveal at the end of season 2. Is the Ghoul's family dead? Are they in Colorado?? We'll have to wait and see! I hope that Leslie Uggums and Rachel Marsh return. The show is potentially running low on prominent female characters. On the other hand, it seems likely that Macauley Culkin will be in the third season, which is particularly exciting as his character is so fun.
Based on the mid-credits scene, I think we can expect to see more of Michael Cristofer and Xelia Mendes-Jones as Quintus and Dane, respectively. As for new characters and cast members, I also can't wait to see who they get! From Justin Theroux to Kumail Nanjiani and Clancy Brown, Fallout has no trouble attracting talent.
When *would* Fallout season 3 come out? Hypothetically, that is.
Fallout is one of the rare recent shows, especially in the science fiction/action/fantasy genre, that has not had huge gaps between seasons. Season 1 debuted in its entirety on April 10, 2024, and season 2 dropped weekly between December 16, 2025 and February 2, 2026. Less than two years is a big deal these days, y'all! Since the show was picked up for a third season way back in May, there's a decent chance that we'll get to see it early in 2027. Hopefully they'll stick with the weekly release, too, as that really is a more enjoyable way to follow a show like this. That's just one gal's educated guess, however. Anything can happen.
