The Milano Cortina Winter Games won’t be the first Olympic stage for Madison Chock and Evan Bates. In fact, it’s going to be the fourth. The Team USA ice dancers (who are one of three pairs featured in the Netflix doc Glitter & Gold) and have been performing as a pair since 2011, and with the 2026 Winter Games upon us, they’re ready to strut their stuff again...especially after taking home gold in the team event at the 2022 Beijing Winter Games. Oh, and side note: They’re not just a dream team on the ice—they’re a real-life couple as well.

In honor of their first Olympic Games as husband and wife, here’s everything you need to know about Madison Chock and Evan Bates’ relationship from the very beginning. Starting with...

2011

Madison’s first ice dance partner, Greg Zuerlein, retires, and so she’s paired up with Evan for the 2011-2012 season.

After years as partners, things finally turn romantic for Madi and Evan...and apparently, Evan made the first move.

“Well, I pretty much told Madi that I loved her,” Evan confesses to NBC back in 2018. “Last year I told [her] how I really felt and that changed things a lot.”

2018

The two head to the PyeongChang Olympic Games—this time as a couple. Unfortunately, they fall during their final ice dancing routine, dashing their hopes of medaling.

Still, the vibes are v cute:

2022

Evan and Madison attend the Olympic Games in Beijing as co-captions, where they take home their first Olympic medals in the team event. And while the American team is initially awarded the silver medal, they eventually end up with gold after Team Russia is disqualified following a doping scandal.

A few months later, the couple returns from a trip to Thailand to announce that they’re engaged. “Left home with my boyfriend, coming back with my fiancé!” Madi captioned her Instagram post sharing the news.

Just over two years after getting engaged, Madi and Evan say “I do” in Hawaii.

The pics? Beyond dreamy.

2026

Ahead of their fourth Olympic Games together, Evan opens up about how his relationship with Madi has evolved both on and off the ice, telling Us Weekly, “We skated together for five years and it was just a friendship, but the friendship was good. From day one we always had a connection. We were laughing, we enjoyed our time together. It made skating so fun. Over the five years, we had success, but also didn’t have success. We had a lot of trying times. In those trying times, I really realized how much I relied on Madi and really felt connected to her in a way that went beyond just as a skating partner.”

He continues, “I remember thinking, ‘I can’t really imagine one day walking out of the rink and going our separate ways, being friends and just not seeing each other anymore.’ I made the realization, I shared the realization and, luckily, the realization was reciprocated. That changed everything in our relationship and our partnership.”

Cannot wait to see these lovebirds back out on the ice!!
