During her acceptance speech, the British singer-songwriter took a moment to acknowledge her mixed heritage and give a shoutout to immigrants amid rising ICE raids throughout the U.S.

“I’m up here as the granddaughter of an immigrant. I’m a product of bravery, and I think those people deserve to be celebrated,” she said, in part, before closing out her speech with, “We’re nothing without each other, thank you so much.”

And before she took home the award, Olivia performed her dreamy track, “Man I Need,” in a sparkly red minidress in a medley alongside the other BNA nominees.

ICYMI, Olivia was raised in London by a Jamaican-Guyanese mother and an English father. She’s openly discussed her Caribbean roots, which include a grandmother from the Windrush generation, throughout her career.

She didn’t explicitly call out ICE but joined other artists like Bad Bunny and Jelly Roll in using their platforms to spread messages of love, despite heritage or political party affiliation.
