Zayn Malik might be on the same side of the internet as all of us. During one of his sold-out shows at his Stairway to the Sky residency in Las Vegas on January 28, the former One Direction crooner thanked fans for spending the evening with him. He then seemingly weighed in on recent discourse surrounding high ticket prices for his former bandmate Harry Styles’ upcoming Together, Together residency.
“I just want to say a big, big thank you to each and every single one of you for being here with me tonight,” Zayn said in fan-posted footage. “You could have been anywhere, but you decided to spend your night with me.”
He then playfully added, “Hopefully, the ticket prices weren’t too high.”
Zayn’s comment comes after Harry’s Together, Together residency tickets first went on sale on Monday, January 26. Fans have sine expressed concern with the face value prices of the seats, which reportedly went for anywhere from $50 to $1,182.40, including TicketMaster’s service fees. Per The Hollywood Reporter, the ticket retailer claimed that dynamic pricing (aka demand-based pricing) wasn’t applied.
Of course, they took to social media to voice their concerns over the cost of Harry’s tickets. “Together together but only if you have a lot of money money,” one fan wrote, while another criticized the Grammy winner, adding, “I’m a massive Harry Styles fan but we need to have a serious conversation about the absurd ticket prices some artists are now charging. Makes music & entertainment completely inaccessible for a whole demographic of fans who don’t have hundreds to spend on a single ticket!”
On the flip side, other fans revealed that ticket pricing for Zayn’s residency wasn’t that much lower, as they reportedly ranged from $30 to over $1,000. Some even claimed that Zayn’s comment might have been “hypocritical” because the price range for his residency were reportedly similar. “To put VIP in the nosebleeds and have them pay $500 still is a wee bit insane,” one fan wrote of Zayn’s show.
TicketMaster has yet to address the backlash or update ticket pricing for Harry’s upcoming shows, including a historic 30-show stint at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
