There’s no denying it: As much as the start of a new year can be refreshing and exciting, January can honestly be…quite sad. It’s cold, the sunlight is scarce, and our pockets (and spirits) are feeling a little emptier after the holidays. But I found that finding joy in what I wear instantly lifts my mood and helps me through the oh-so scary winter doldrums.
My go-to combo? Easily, a tweed jacket paired with jeans. It’s one of those effortless outfit formulas: comfortable, but still put-together, and only requires two staple pieces—a balance that’s surprisingly hard to achieve when all you're trying to do is look presentable without getting frostbite. Plus, thanks to Chanel and Dior’s recent Pre-Fall 2026 collections, this classic look is also a spot-on trend.
So, we've scoured the street-style looks for the best ideas on how to layer up stylishly in your favorite jeans and tweed jacket. Trust us, it's possible! January won't know what's hit it.
With a scarf coat and bright sneakers
Scarf coats started creeping up in the latter part of 2025, and it's safe to say that they will be staying put in 2026. This wearer has layered hers over a pink tweed jacket, which matches the laces of her red sneakers, adding pops of bright color against the camel shade. Her embellished jeans and chunky gold jewelry seriously combat the winter blues.
With layered T-shirts and chunky socks
Instead of trying to hide your multitude of layers, embrace them! A bright T-shirt worn underneath a black graphic one adds dimension and stands out against a white tweed jacket. And while it might be tempting to wear nothing but UGG boots at this time of year, don't be afraid to pair lady-like pumps and heels with chunky ribbed socks for a cozy yet chic look.
With a leather shirt and oversized bag
Here's proof that a chocolate brown leather shirt and a burgundy tweed jacket are a match made in heaven. The oversized clutch bag adds a splash of print to the ensemble, and her dark indigo, wide-leg jeans are seriously lust-worthy.
With a turtleneck top and dramatic sunglasses
If you're not into colorful, clashing layers, then why not go matchy-matchy instead? A black roll-neck jumper is a wardrobe staple, and works perfectly underneath a buttoned-up tweed jacket. Shield your eyes from the winter sun in oversized, visor-style shades and complement your baggy denim with point-toe boots.
With a crochet scarf and two-tone pumps
Throw a crochet scarf over a tweed jacket for a sophisticated winter get-up. A pair of classic two-tone pumps keeps the overall ensemble elevated, balancing the more playful hues and textures.
With a simple, white tee and sneakers
No matter what tweed jacket or jean style you opt for, this is an outfit formula that will hit every time. A classic white shirt and white tennis shoes keep the look fresh, crisp, and refined without doing too much.
With a silk scarf and Mary-Janes
Adding a pop of color or print to a black jacket is easily done with a silk scarf worn around your neck. Turn up your denim to show off a pair of Mary-Jane shoes, styled with socks to keep your feet warm!
With a crossbody bag and lace-up boots
Fashion has spoken: Victorian-style lace-up boots are having a moment. Wear them underneath embellished or patterned denim to give them a modern twist. A colorful tweed jacket and chain-strap cross-body bag keep the outfit upbeat and standout.
