• The 83rd Annual Golden Globes took place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Sunday, Jan. 11.
  • Chaos was brought on stage thanks to punchlines and performances from host Nikki Glaser.
  • An unexpected moment ensued backstage as a fire accidentally broke out in the press room.

The 2026 Golden Globes brought all kinds of chaos and surprises. See: Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet packing on some PDA after he won his first Globe, One Battle After Another winning Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, and Adolescence fully sweeping most of the categories. Oh, and there was host Nikki Glaser’s opening monologue that called out celebs like Michael B. Jordan and Jacob Elordi. However, all the chaos from the evening wasn’t limited to the Beverly Hilton’s ballroom, as a fire suddenly started backstage.

Yep, you read that correctly. A fire fully broke out, and it wasn’t because of Teyana Taylor’s smoking “party in the back” outfit. According to footage from The Hollywood Reporter’s Chris Gardner, one of the awards show’s catering employees accidentally knocked over a coffee holder while the sterno underneath was lit.

In the clip, officials attempted to fan away the smoke rising from the sterno while other employees pulled a curtain away from the flames on the carpet. “For a brief moment, the carpet was on fire and smoke wafted up around the curtains. They put it out quickly fortunately. Yikes!” THR’s reporter wrote in a social media post about the situation.

The fire reportedly occurred as the show was still going on in the Beverly Hilton’s international ballroom, where stars like Teyana, Timmy, and Hamnet’s Jessie Buckley won big.

After she won the first award of the night for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture, Teyana took to the stage to show off a glittering cross whale tail moment on the back of her Schiaparelli gown. “Wait till you see my party in the back,” she said, later thanking One Battle After Another’s director, Paul Thomas Anderson.

“To Paul ‘Let ’Em Cook’ Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust, and your brilliance. My gratitude is endless. I love you, we love you, and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast,” she said, through tears.

“And last, but most importantly, to my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability,” Teyana said. “Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space. Thank you so much, everybody.”
