- Aydan Nix, the half-sister of Bella and Gigi Hadid, penned a personal essay about her life after learning she's related to the Hadid family.
- Aydan revealed that the Hadids have fully accepted her as one of their own and shared their connections to help further her career in the fashion industry.
- She also revealed that finding out the truth with her family has come with a set of grievances and insecurities.
It's been a little over six months since it was revealed that the Hadids had a new addition to the family, in the form of a long-lost sister named Aydin Nix. The half-sister of Gigi and Bella Hadid is now opening up about what it's been like to have been welcomed into the family fold, from its sweeter moments—like bonding with her siblings over fashion—to isolating ones, where she mourned a childhood she never got to have with them.
“My sisters (along with the rest of the family) have been nothing but warm and generous. They have made space for me in ways they didn’t have to. They’ve been kind,” Aydin revealed in an essay for The Cut. “Anwar called me his baby sister the first time we ever spoke on the phone. Bella calls me her twin. My mom couldn’t even tell our voices apart when we first spoke to her on the phone.”
As a refresher, Aydin found out that she is one of Mohamed Hadid's (Gigi, Anwar and Bella's dad, in addition to Alana and Marielle Hadid) children in 2023 after taking a DNA test. While the DNA test felt filled a “hole” that she had been carrying her whole life, it also left her with a sense of sadness, too.
“I was grieving the childhood I would never have with five siblings I didn’t grow up with. No sleepovers, no shared holidays, no borrowing clothes, no inside jokes, no stories woven together. They had a lifetime of memories, and I felt like the odd one out,” she recalled.
But the connection to the Hadid family has also come with its positives. Aydan also has an interest in fashion, studying at Parsons School of Design and working in the industry. Now, that has been made easier by Gigi and Bella's influence.
“I got to close the Desigual fashion show in Barcelona,” she wrote. “Gigi introduced me to her friend, Gabriella Karefa Johnson, whom I had admired not only for her styling but for her strong convictions and values. I started assisting her when times were especially busy.” Aydan also revealed that she was able to work on a Victoria's Secret campaign, leading her to feel “more fulfilled” than ever.
Though the DNA revelation has led to some insecurities, Aydan is doing her best to combat it: “I am doing my best to live my life for me and to remember that, despite a couple of extra eyes on me, my life is still my own. Now, I’m learning how to speak to myself. And slowly, I’m learning how to make that voice gentler.” ❤️
