Ever since Hayley dropped her song “Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party” in late August, fans have been wondering who, exactly, she was referencing in the line, “I’ll be the biggest star at this racist country singer’s bar.” And it turns out, all you had to do was ask her! In a recent interview, Hayley Williams confirmed that the “racist country singer” mentioned in “Ego Death” is, in fact, Morgan Wallen.

“It could be a couple,” she admitted when asked about the lyric during a sit-down with The New York Times' Popcast podcast. “But I’m always talking about Morgan Wallen. I do’'t give a shit.” And when she says she doesn’t “give a shit,” she means it. Hayley continued, jokingly challenging the singer, “Find me at Whole Foods, bitch. I don’t care.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Hayley explained that it was important to her to speak out against racism and honor Black American history in her own music.

“I’m never not ready to scream at the top of my lungs about racial issues,” she said. “I don’t know why that became the thing that gets me most angry. I think because it’s so intersectional that it overlaps with everything from climate change to LGBTQIA issues.”

Morgan has yet to respond publicly to Hayley’s admission, but this isn't the first time he’s been accused of racism. Back in 2021, video surfaced of Morgan using the n-word, prompting swift backlash from country artists like Kelsea Ballerini and Maren Morris. He was even suspended from his record label.

The singer apologized at the time, saying in part, “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever.”

And though Morgan has gone on to become a best-selling artist and Grammy nominee, his career has continued to be plagued by scandals, including a 2024 arrest for allegedly throwing a chair out of a bar window in Nashville.
