Of course, the Rare Beauty founder was sitting next to Steve Martin and Martin Short, which proved to be a sweet source of entertainment for both them and the audience.
Per behind-the-scenes footage captured by Deadline, Selena caught Martin red-handed as he was texting their costar Meryl Streep. “Marty’s texting Meryl,” she said, turning to her fiancé, Benny Blanco, with a lighthearted expression on her face.
Martin and Meryl’s OMITB characters may be a couple onscreen, but in real life, the pair claims to be nothing more than friends. They’ve reportedly had a close friendship since (at least!) 2015, and reps for each of the actors have denied the dating rumors since they first surfaced in 2024.
On January 9, 2024, one of Martin’s reps told The Messenger (via Us Weekly), “They are just very good friends, nothing more.” Marty also echoed his reps when he debunked the theories on the Club Random With Bill Maher podcast on January 28, 2024. “We’re not a couple. We are just very close friends,” he said at the time. A month later, an insider told Page Six that they had “been dating for well over a year now.”
