One of Apple TV+’s more underated heroes, Shrinking, is returning for a third season. In the rising streamer’s ecosystem, Shrinking swings more Ted Lasso than Severance, starring Jason Segel as a therapist, plus Harrison Ford in his first major TV comedy role.
Segel’s Jimmy Laird is a Pasadena-based widower, grieving the loss of his wife and parenting his teenage daughter, while maintaining his career at a cognitive behavior therapy practice. The practice is composed of an ensemble cast that infuses a bit of workplace comedy into the series.
Ford plays Jimmy’s mentor Dr. Paul Rhoades, a therapist dealing with Parkinson’s disease, and Jessica Williams plays Gaby, another colleague in the throes of a divorce. If your favorite part of Couples Therapy is when Dr. Orna discusses things with her therapist friends, then this show is for you.
The show began in 2023 with a simple concept, “What if therapists were honest?” To deal with his own apathy and search for purpose, Jimmy begins breaking the rules of his profession by telling clients what he really thinks and urging them into bold, sometimes reckless choices.

Season two of Shrinking sees Jimmy continue to grapple with his grief, guilt, and unorthodox therapy methods as the reappearance of Louis—the drunk driver who killed his wife—forces him to confront forgiveness while struggling to repair his relationship with his daughter Alice.
12 episodes of interweaving emotional dynamics later… The season ends with a heartwarming Thanksgiving episode wherein Louis is left on the brink at a train station, considering suicide. He reaches out to Alice, who is celebrating a phone-free holiday with the rest of the gang at Gaby’s house. Jimmy, despite his hatred of Louis, sees the message and meets Louis at the train station, saving the life of the man who took his wife’s. Some beautiful human stuff here.
What do we know about season three?
Filming for season three of Shrinking wrapped this summer, just days after screen legend Harrison Ford landed his first Emmy nomination at the age of 83 for his season two performance. With full hearts and a fresh crop of episodes to edit, the Apple TV team posted Ford’s heartfelt wrap speech to Instagram in late July.
Apple TV reminded you, and so will we, the first two seasons of Shrinking are now streaming. A premiere date for season three has not been announced yet, though we can guess this is an early 2026 release, picking up after the holidays.
