Kendrick Lamar may be one of the biggest stars in the world (see: his 22 Grammys, Pulitzer Prize, and Super Bowl Halftime Show performer status, not to mention his 10 nominations at the 2025 VMAs...), but his love life has been relatively low-key since he stepped into the spotlight. In case you were wondering, the “DNA” rapper has actually been romantically linked to Whitney Alford since they were in high school, and they’ve made a few rare public appearances together over the years.

As K.Dot racks up more awards for his shelves this season, now seems like a great time for a rundown on his relationship. Here’s everything you need to know about Kendrick Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford.

Whitney and Kendrick are high school sweethearts

Yep. The pair has been together for nearly 20 years, according to Us Weekly. They met as teens when they attended Centennial High School in Compton and have been romantically involved since.

During an interview with The New York Times magazine, Kendrick admitted that Whitney was one of the only people who has the power to call him out, saying, “One particular young lady. She’s been here since Day 1.”

She’s a makeup artist

According to Whitney’s Instagram profile, she’s been an MUA since at least 2018. Her handle is even @blushedbywhit. Cute!

She and Kendrick have been engaged since 2015

During an interview with The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 in 2015, Kendrick confirmed that he and Whitney were engaged. “Yeah, definitely,” the rapper said at the time. “I’m loyal to the soul.”

He also doubled down on her being a “Day 1” supporter of his, adding, “Everybody that’s been around me has been around since Day 1, and I can’t change that. I don’t change for nobody. People that have been by your side—you’re supposed to honor that.”

They have two children

Throughout their nearly two-decade relationship, Kendrick and Whitney have also welcomed two kids together. Their daughter, Uzi, was born in 2019, while their son, Enoch, was born a few years later in 2022.

Longtime fans might already know this, but Kendrick, Whitney, and their two children are all featured on the cover of his 2022 album, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers.

Their public appearances are pretty rare

The pair may go way back, but they’ve always kept details of their romance severely under wraps. Kendrick and Whitney made their first public appearance together at the Grammy Awards in 2014, though he’s rapped about her since his debut self-titled EP on songs like “She Needs Me” and “Determined.”

On DAMN (released in 2019), Kendrick also seemingly alludes to Whitney, rapping about how if he doesn’t have his love, he “got nothin.’”

Keep being adorable, you two.
