Wondering if Prince George has any clue that he's destined to be king one day? Apparently very much yes—despite the fact that he's just 12-years-old and his parents have tried their best to give him a "normal life." You know, full of public appearances and yacht trips!
Royal expert and historian Marlene Koenig tells Us Weekly that George is "undoubtedly aware of his future role" as England's monarch, saying "Barring any accidents or health issues, George will not be king for some years. He is second in line — as his father is the heir apparent — and his grandfather is the king."
As for when George was formally "told" about being King, Marlene says "proper awareness" came after Queen Elizabeth II’s passing in September 2022. Since then, George has "taken part in numerous public events" and Prince William and Kate Middleton likely spoke about "these changes" with him.
As she put it, "The Coronation provided the young prince with the knowledge that he, too, would one day be crowned in a Coronation ceremony. George may be a 12-year-old schoolboy who loves sports, but he is most certainly aware of his future."
Meanwhile, royal expert Robert Jobson says Prince William's been teaching George about "responsibilities as heir to the throne" which has been a gradual processes so it doesn't "freak him out." As for his grandfather's coronation, where Prince George was a page, Robert says "It gave him a real sense of the grandeur and all the expectation. I thought that was quite important actually for George."
