Warner Bros. and HBO have released the first official image of young Harry Potter in their upcoming TV adaptation.

On Monday, July 14, the production company announced that filming had officially begun on the highly anticipated Harry Potter TVseries, which is set to be released in 2027.

Along with the announcement, the series unveiled its first official image of Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, grinning in full costume with the character’s iconic round glasses, Hogwarts school robe, and distinct lighting scar on his forehead.

Dominic will be joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley for the new series. The young trio were chosen from a nationwide casting call that saw over 30,000 hopefuls audition for the legendary roles last autumn.

Speaking about the casting, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said in a joint statement back in May: “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron.”

They continued: “The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

McLaughlin shines in his debut as The Boy Who Lived and the resemblance to Daniel Radcliffe is uncanny, making him perfect for the role.

“So exciting he looks just like Harry!!!” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter) upon seeing the image.

“They nailed the main character,” another said.

Dominic is relatively new to the acting world, so it'll be interesting to see him in the titular role for the new Harry Potter TV series.

He will also appear in the sky film titled Grow alongside Golda Rosheuvel and Nick Frost, who, coincidentally, will play Hagrid in the Harry Potter TV show. The movie will be released later in 2025.

The Harry Potter TV series should premiere in 2027.
