The premise of Temptation Island is pretty clear: couples who are facing relationship problems travel to a tropical island paradise, where they are separated and forced to live among hot singles who are meant to "tempt" them and put their bonds to the test. The concept of the show itself sounds like a wild free-for-all, except for the boundaries each couple sets for themselves. However, there are actual rules set up by production which are quite specific—and some of them are pretty strict.
From access to their devices and sleeping arrangements to the way they dress and do their hair, the show actually has a number of restrictions they place on their cast members. Some of them are pretty obvious, while others are maybe a bit weird. In any case, if you aren't clued-in on everything that the cast or can't do, read on and learn about the rules the Temptation Island cast has to follow.
They can't wear whatever they want.
Like any other reality show, there's some wardrobe curation going on behind-the-scenes. The cast isn't allowed to wear anything with visible logos or branding on it, and they also aren't allowed to wear anything with distracting or busy patterns. Instead, the producers prefer that they pack clothes that have bright colors.
“We do not allow logos of any sort and we stay away from all white, dull colors, and busy patterns that could make the camera moiré,” Williams said. “It’s important that they pop on camera so bright colors are always preferred.”
They can't change their hair.
Once a person has been cast for the show, they can't cut or dye it. “We like for them to have their hair the same color throughout shooting to maintain continuity,” showrunner Trifari Williams told USA.
Still, the cast members are free to play around with their hairstyling choices throughout filming. They also have a hair and makeup artist on set for the bonfires, interviews, and other big events they need to shoot.
The singles aren't allowed to hook-up with each other.
Obviously, the main focus of the show is on whether the couples who entered together will leave with each other or new partners. To make sure that nothing distracts from that basic premise, the singles in the cast are not allowed to hook-up with one another throughout the duration of filming. Some reports even say that the singles aren't in contact with the other set of singles of the opposite sex.
Sleeping arrangements for the singles are pretty strict.
While the men and women who are part of couples get a bit more freedom and room with their luxurious villas, the singles are put up in dorm-style rooms and sleep in bunk beds. Of course, they're free to find ways to tempt their way into a bed in the villas.
They can't use their phones, or post on social media.
Like many other dating shows, Temptation Island doesn't allow its participants to have a lot of access to the outside world. This is meant to fully-immerse the cast in the experience, as well as to avoid any potential spoilers or leaks. The cast is also prohibited from posting any photos or videos together until after the entire season airs.
Microphones have to be worn at all times.
In reality shows like this, there's no telling when or where the action is going to take place. So the cast members are required to wear their mics all the time, lest the producers miss a really juicy bit of drama. This includes the Temptation Havens, which are the camera-free zones where the cast members can feel free to explore their connections deeper. While no one can see what they're doing, the producers can still certainly listen in.
