We were overdue for another movie exploring the inner workings of weird rich people. Luckily the mini drought's over for fans of that specific genre, because the new horror movie Opus will be right up their alley. The story follows a young reporter, Ariel Ecton (played by Ayo Edebiri), who's given the assignment of a lifetime (sort of): to shadow her editor (Murray Bartlett) on his trip to profile an elusive music legend.

You can think of Alfred Moretti, played by John Malkovich, as Elton John/David Bowie-level legendary celeb. After decades spent removed from public life, he's invited Ariel, well Ariel's boss, and other select members of the press to his remote compound. He's gearing up to release his first project in years, and to celebrate his grand reintroduction to the public, the megastar ropes the group of journalists into a crazy journey to discover the details about his unique and mysterious inner life...as unsettling as it might be. Opus marks the directorial debut for Mark Anthony Green, and it also stars Juliette Lewis, Amber Midthunder, Young Mazino, Tatanka Means, and Stephanie Suganami (who we actually spoke to about the project).

When is Opus Coming Out?

A select few caught the film back in January, when it originally premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. The entire cast pulled up to Park City for that event. However, if you weren't able to make it out to Utah earlier this year, Opus hits theaters nationwide on March 14.
