It's another year of Wicked-themed collabs and Halloween costumes, and we're not complaining about it. Thanks to Wicked's upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good, we have double the amount of costumes to consider. Although the second installment won't be released until November 22, the film's official social media platforms are posting plenty of promotional images and behind-the-scenes shots, giving us all the inspiration for new costumes. If last year's viral costumes were any indication, we expect these Wicked-inspired Halloween costume ideas will be crowd-pleasers at every party—or, as Galinda would say, popular.
Based on the trailer for Wicked: For Good, Elphaba and Glinda are stepping into their power, in looks that reflect their grown. The green versus pink theme going strong, but with a more mature, confident flair. We curated an array of outfits inspired by the two-part Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande-starring musical adaptation, but also a few from the 1939 The Wizard of Oz movie and the original Broadway musical.
Most importantly, you'll want something comfy, because the number one rule of a Wicked-themed costume is that you have to be able to dance through life, or at least through Halloween. Otherwise, what's the point? These Wicked-inspired Halloween costumes are all comfortable, stylish, and fully magical. So grab your crew, pick your character, and get ready to go to Oz!
Glinda
Glinda is famously sporting a blue/lavender bubble dress in all the promo pictures for the upcoming second feature. No surprise, several Halloween stores are getting in on the action with new blue versions of her Glinda's dress. Complete it with her iconic bubble wand and a statement-making crown.
Or, you can get inspired by this corset and tulle skirt look, featuring long satin gloves, a fascinator hat, and a butterfly brooch. Plus, it sort of resembles the viral pink tulip dress from TikTok.
You might look at Glinda and think, "I'm not that girl," but with a fluffy dress, a delicate crown, and a bright wand, you could be. Go for a pink Glinda costume inspired by the 2024 Wicked movie or full retro with a Glinda the Good Witch costume modeled after the iconic 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz. Tweak a few accessories or leave as is—either way, everyone will recognize you for the all-pink-everything bubble queen you are.
Elphaba
Although it might be stuffy to DIY all of Elphaba's voluminous layers from her powerful new look in Wicked: For Good, luckily, pre-made outfits are already on shelves. Finish off the look with her trusty broom and Grimmerie accessory for a decidedly Part 2 spin.
Or, you can DIY this graceful cloaked ensemble if you want to go for something unique and not so pop-u-lar. Plus, you could totally repurpose these dresses for other events down the line.
Inspired by Elphaba's look from the first movie? It shouldn't be a stretch to DIY it with quintessential witchy accessories, like a black cloak and a pointy hat. Just add her circular asymmetrical glasses for a bit of character. If all else fails, you can also shop pre-made ensembles of this look, too.
To truly pull out all the stops for a wickedly realistic Elphaba costume, you'll need some green face and body paint. Gree green tights and gloves work, too. But without it, you'll just look like any common witch off the street!
Fiyero
Fiyero is all grown up and ready for his duties as the Captain of the Wizard's Guard in For Good. He's dressed in all green, a look similar to the Wizard below, reflecting his loyalty to the Emerald City. You can DIY his uniform with a green tailcoat and vest, golden accoutrements, and a faux dagger.
Embodying Fiyero's YOLO attitude is key to pulling off this costume inspired by the first movie. (You'll also want to channel Jonathan Bailey's irresistible charm, too.) In Wicked, the party boy is wearing riding pants and a dashing blue vest, so be sure to use those touchstones when putting your outfit together.
Madame Morrible
Embrace your inner sorceress and dress up as Madame Morrible this Halloween. You can snag her ethereal coat dress and silver white wig right off Amazon.
The Wizard
Who wouldn't want to spend Halloween being the most powerful wizard in all of Oz? Well, Elphaba, for one, but that's besides the point... Like Elphaba, the Wizard is all about the green, but he's also very big on accessorizing. Perhaps because they distract from the secrets he tries so desperately to hide...
Boq
Sweet munchkin Boq is definitely one of the more quirky Ozians, as evidenced by his bright orange hair and matching sweater vest. In the first movie, Boq is hopelessly in love with Glinda until he starts bonding with Nessarose (Elphaba's sister), so just keep that in mind in case you were thinking of doing a Glinda/Boq couple costume—they're not to be confused with Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater!
Pfannee/Shiz Student
A welcome addition to the movie adaptation of Wicked, Bowen Yang's outfit as Glinda groupie Pfannee is pure Shiz chic: striped blue pants, a blue blazer, and plenty of rizz for good luck! You can use this costume guide as a template for other Shiz students, like Nessarose and ShenShen.
In these costumes...they'll never bring you down. 😉
